Pazham Pori Recipe | Nendran Banana Fritters

Also known Ethakka appam these famed banana fritters have been on the food map of Kerala since long. A prized goodie, it is a ready-to-serve snack that’s humble and requires no side-kicks. Its simplicity and appeal stems from its ‘hero ingredient’ – ripe nendran bananas which are coated in flour and deep-fried. Pazham refers to the nendran and Pori is frying…thus the delicious Pazham Pori.

The type is distinguished by an orange-yellow colour due to the presence of the compound Tepal in its flowers, and the starchy fruit pulp acquires an orange-yellow colour upon attaining ripeness. PAZHAM PORI / NENDRAN BANANA FRITTERS RECIPE

Ingredients for Pazham Pori Recipe:

  • Banana 1-Nendran Variety Ripe.
  • Maida/refined flour 1 c
  • Sugar ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric ½ tsp
  • Sesame seeds ½ tsp
  • Water to make batter
  • Oil for frying

Preparation Method for Pazham Pori Recipe:

  • Wash, peel and slice the bananas
  • Take a large bowl and mix all ingredients into a thick batter with water.
  • Heat oil in a wok and when medium hot, dip each banana slice in the batter and fry in oil till golden brown. Serve hot.
